Welcome to the website of the International Theoretical Physics Olympiad.
Our 2017 competition, which will be held on January 28th, has been organized by a group of PhD students and Postdocs for undergraduates interested in theoretical physics research. Over the course of this 24-hour event, teams of participants will solve six or seven problems related to theoretical physics. (You can find some problems from previous years here.)
Before the event, participants will need to form teams of at most 5 people and register them online. All members of the team must be undergraduate students at the time of the contest. Registration will open on November 30, 2016 05:00 EST and will close on January 27, 2017 05:00 EST.
The competition itself will begin the following day (January 28, 2017 05:00 EST). Teams will have 24 hours to solve the problems and upload their solutions to their individual webpage.
Although we can accept most standard file formats, we highly recommend submitting your solutions as a PDF. The deadline for the submission of all your team’s files is January 29, 2017 05:00 EST. You can update your files as many times as you need to before the deadline so please avoid waiting until the very end.
We encourage you to use textbooks, online materials, and any other external sources that were published before the beginning of the competition. However, discussion of the problems with anyone who is not in your team is strictly prohibited and may lead to disqualification of your entire team.>
